What is FC BASARA MAINZ?
FC BASARA MAINZ is a soccer club based in Mainz, Germany. Founded in 2014 by former Japan national soccer team members Shinji Okazaki (current manager) and Takashi Yamashita (chairman), the club has attracted attention as the only Japanese-run club in Germany. The club currently plays in the sixth division of the German league and is working towards promotion to the third division, the professional league.
The team name "Basara" means "diamond" in Sanskrit, and was used during the Warring States period to represent the trend of "getsujo" (uprising of the underclass).
We incorporated "BASARA" into our team name with the hope that young people with a down-to-earth spirit will take on a big challenge in Germany, seize the opportunity, and spread their wings and soar into the world.
The beginning of BASARA MAINZ
"We want to create a place in Germany where Japanese people can grow as people through soccer." The two founders of the team met in high school.
Representative Takashi Yamashita is a 17th-year student at Takikawa Second High School, a powerhouse soccer team, and Shinji Okazaki is a 19th-year student. The two have been working hard together for a year.
BASARA Project
FCBM is not just a club that aims to be successful as a soccer club, but a club that focuses on "developing people," serving as a "gateway" for players to take on challenges overseas and a "stepping stone" for them to grow as people .
